As expected, Samsung and T-Mobile have launched the Blast slider today, a phone that puts a big emphasis on messaging capabilities. The 1.3 megapixel camera and EDGE data aren't going to get any jaws dropping, but the SureType keypad (something Samsung has pulled off in the past), integrated support for popular email services like Gmail and Yahoo, and crazy color scheme just might. What's better, T-Mobile is charging the same rate for email sent and received on the T729 for the same price as text messages -- no data plan necessary (why haven't other carriers thought of this?). Other features include stereo Bluetooth, microSD slot, and -- naturally -- myFaves support. Look for it on store shelves any day now for $99 on a two-year contract.

It hits stores Wednesday for $200 with voice-plan or $150 with $20-per-month unlimited data plan. (Both require two year contracts.) With it, T-Mobile and HTC have done the impossible: they have made Windows Mobile look good. Great even. Like other WM6 devices including Sprint's recently launched HTC Touch and Verizon's Motorola Q9m, it has an interface skin that shields the user from the immediate effects of the Windows Mobile UI. But unlike those other two, this one goes a little deeper, letting you do quite a bit without ever seeing Windows Mobile. Best of all, it manages this feat of user-friendliness without a touchscreen, just a comfortable click wheel. I'm a fan of the beautiful 2.6" screen as well, and in this case the BB Pearl-style QWERTY keypad/numpad worked great combined with solid predictive of this show is the UI, so have at it:While there's no way for me yet to call it a pure 100% victory for T-Mo and HTC—my previous Windows Mobile wounds run too deep for that—I am willing to say that there's a sea change, better interfaces are being designed for WM6, and this is without a doubt the best one we've seen yet. T-Mobile launches BlackBerry Pearl 8220

9:27 AM
The BlackBerry Pearl 8220 runs neck-and-neck with the Storm for the title of "most leaked RIM device of 2008," but for what it's worth, T-Mobile is just now getting around to announcing a date and price for the most fliptastic phone in Waterloo's ever-expanding lineup. That's good news -- but perhaps the best news is that the launch date just happens to be today (for one of the two available colors, anyhow). The black version of the 8220 will be appearing online and in T-Mobile stores today, while the dark red will be following on a week later on Monday, October 20. Both will run $149.99 on a two-year contract. We've been toying around with the black 8220 for a few days now, and our emotions are mixed. With WiFi, support for T-Mobile's HotSpot unlimited calling service, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 2-megapixel cam with flash, support for microSD cards up to 16GB, and everything that makes a BlackBerry a BlackBerry, there's little question that it's got some horsepower under the hood, but there are a couple odd personality quirks that we'd personally have a tough time getting used to. First off -- something we first noticed when we played with it at CTIA last month -- the keys are completely flush and tucked up next to one another, making it nearly impossible to type confidently (of course, we weren't huge fans of SureType to begin with, so experts might have an easier go of it). Along the same vein, the trackball is deeply recessed, so your thumb is constantly rubbing against the chrome well surrounding the ball; not a dealbreaker by any stretch, but annoying after a while. On the plus side, we think it's a pretty striking (albeit beefy) phone, the exterior display is both beautiful and functional, and we really think this is going to appeal to a whole bunch of folks who'd otherwise be considering a Pearl candybar. We'd once heard rumors that RIM and T-Mobile were going to try to launch this at a $50 price point, and by golly, if they could actually make that happen, they'd have a monster seller on their hands. Check out our hands-on shots in the gallery!

T-Mobile’s marketing the Compact V on its support for widgets because, apparently, it’s the first of its devices to “showcase internet on your phone with widgets”, which include eBay, BBC News and Twitter. The phone has an integrated satnav feature and T-Mobile said it’ll reward the first 10,000 buyers that sign into an 18-month contract with free CoPilot satnav software for the same length of time.

A quick run-down of the features show that the E66 is a pretty capable device. There's a 2.4" QVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, video calling, HSDPA data (with download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps), WiFi, microSD expandable memory, it comes with an FM radio, Bluetooth, USB and infra-red connectivity and on top of that it runs the Symbian S60 operating system which gives the E66 a number of useful applications. The main differences between the Nokia E66 and the 6210 mNavigator are that the E66 has WiFi and the 6210 does not, but the 6210 is a little lighter and more colourful. The software on the E66 is more business oriented, and it has a longer battery life. Both handsets are roughly the same price. So.. it seems that the E66 competes very well with the 6210 and it might well out-compete it in the consumer market.

T-Mobile UK has set up their own teaser page for the Nokia N8 giving you a chance to Register your interest on the upcoming arrival of Nokia’s latest flagship device. Nokia, a former leader in the world of smartphones, has fallen on to hard times of late and needs the N8 to help them recapture some of their past glory. The N8 offer a 3.5” AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, HDMI port, Wi-Fi b/g/n, 16GB of internal storage, Symbian ^3, GPS, Bluetooth and most important a 12 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Based on the N8’s camera specs it should put it well ahead of the pack and may bring back some smartphone glory to Nokia. I’ve been a Nokia fan boy for years and I’m hoping the N8 does well because Nokia has provided a lot of smartphone innovations over the years and it would be a huge loss if they were not involved in the manufacturing and distribution of high-end handsets in the future.

Both the T9 keypad and navigation array are really good, designed by inputs largely undisturbed. As a phone, the 2720 Fold makes for high-quality calls, much clearer and better sounding than other phones in the same price range. Callers on the other hand, can detect a certain degree of sharpness, but excellent discussions reported anyway. Speakerphone was decent and usable, but by far the best. The battery life lasts for three hours that it is good for a day or two of regular use (maybe more if you rarely make calls) should be evaluated.

The Nokia 6650 features a range of multimedia features, including Mobile TV, Mobile Jukebox, MP3 player, and FM radio, in-built GPS and pre- installed Nokia Maps, a fairly lacklustre two megapixel camera, albeit with LED flash and 4x digital zoom, and colour-changing keypad, for the littlest bit of bling. It also makes the most of T-Mobile's web'n'walk service, giving you cost-effeective mobile Internet. More exciting? Middling, perhaps, but it's available for free on Combi 30 plans and above. As expected, the Nokia 7510 has gone official on T-Mobile -- albeit with less "Supernova" branding than we would've figured on. We're not sure why T-Mob decided to drop the naming convention, because it sorta relegates an otherwise- interesting phone to anonymous number-dom, but that's why there are well-compensated marketing folks making these critical decisions, right? It's got WiFi, making it one of the hotter HotSpot-compatible phones currently offered, and features a translucent cover over a fancy OLED display that serves up interesting effects for your entertainment. It's QVGA, it has Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, myFaves support, and three included changeable faceplates -- Espresso Brown, Fatal Red, and Emerald Green. Look for it in stores in "the coming weeks."

To unlock a Nokia 5310 from T-Mobile it is completely free and only takes a few steps. Your Nokia 5310 will first need an unlock code. As stated in this article, you can get yourself a free unlock code by calling the T-Mobile support line at 1-800-866-2453. In exchange for the unlock code, they will request your Nokia 5310′s IMEI number, which you can find by typing *#06# and hitting enter. Unfortunately, many of the Nokia unlock code generators do not have codes supporting the Nokia 5310, so you are probably best off calling the T-Mobile. Once you have your free unlock code for your Nokia 5310 you can begin the unlocking process. Here are the steps to unlock your phone for free:
T-Mobile issues 5610 XpressMusic

Nokia’s Comes With Music offer seems to have hit a slight snag: T-Mobile has announced that some of the phones shipped with the package are defective. The network operator’s temporarily discontinued sales of the Nokia 5610 XpressMusic in order to address “a defective component in some units that may cause the LED display to go blank”. Although T-Mobile hasn’t said how many phones could be affected, it claimed the issue is “limited to a very small percentage of devices”. The operator’s working with Nokia to try and resolve the problem, but Nokia’s yet to speak up about the problem. If you’ve experienced a problem with your Nokia 5610 XpressMusic phone, you can contact T-Mobile online for support. But not before you send us the details and pictures, of course.
